Dental implants are used to replace the roots of a missing tooth or teeth. They are used to anchor a tooth or multiple teeth (like a bridge or a denture). The implant is surgically attached to supportive bone in a patient’s jaws. If multiple teeth are missing, multiple implants are used to replace what teeth a patient has lost. The area is allowed time to heal for the bone to grow to the implant. After the area has healed, the final prosthesis (crown, bridge or denture) can be made to attach to the implant or implants.
The chewing function and efficiency of an implant restoration closely approximates that of natural teeth. The esthetics of implant restorations can be undetectable form natural teeth.
